Morton Silverman, OD

Dr. Silverman graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1950 and 49 years later was awarded the school's Presidential Medal of Honor for distinguished service to optometry. He was in private practice in Warwick, R.I., from 1950 to 1980, twice served as president of the Rhode Island Optometric Association and was involved in major legislation that created substantial changes in the practice of optometry in Rhode Island as well as nationwide.

He was associate professor and clinical director at the Optometric Center of Los Angeles, a division of the Southern California College of Optometry, and managed the school's public eye clinic serving the needs of low-income residents.

Dr. Silverman was an associate professor at the New England College of Optometry and also was a professor in the school of public health at Nova Southeastern University.
